Hamilton Plein Air Festival
Dundurn’s Historic Kitchen Garden is participating as a host location for the Hamilton Plein Air Festival, an annual celebration of art, nature and community! The plein air festival celebrates the practice of creating visual artwork outdoors by inviting artists from across North America to embrace the challenge and create their best work for the opportunity to win awards. The garden will be open early for visitors to stroll and artists to set up and capture the beautiful surroundings. Re-enactment of the Battle of Stoney Creek
Witness the re-enactment of the Battle of Stoney Creek June 6, 1813, a significant turning point in the War of 1812. Bring the whole family for period games, food, demonstrations, historical music and fireworks. Visit the merchants and military encampments and discover traditional pastimes. The event features Indigenous programming including a narrated ‘Great Peace Game’ of Haudenosaunee Lacrosse on the Battlefield prior to each Battle Re-enactment on Saturday. After the game, the young men will be joined by Haudenosaunee singers and dancers who will share Gada:tro (Standing Quiver Dance), and the Smoke Dance with audience participation.

Pop-Up in Dundurn’s Historic Kitchen Garden
Hamilton Children’s Museum will be popping up at Dundurn National Historic Site in the Historic Kitchen Garden. Bring your young family and friends for free nature-based activities in “Sophia’s Garden”, a child-focused interactive space. This area of the garden was inspired by excerpts from The Diary of Sophia MacNab, as Sophia describes playing in the kitchen garden and growing a small plot of fruits and vegetables with her younger sister. This new garden features plants selected to inspire kids to touch, smell and interact with nature. Join Hamilton Children’s Museum staff to explore plants, animals, insects and engage in hands-on activities.
This program is weather dependent and will be cancelled if there is audible thunder, heavy rain, or if temperatures are above 40 degrees Celsius.

The Iron Pour
The Steam Museum is pleased to welcome the Canadian Society for Contemporary Iron Arts (CSCIA) for a public Iron Pour! Artists will be on site forging pieces in a live furnace and demonstrating how to use scratch blocks to create works of art from cast iron. Visitors will be able to speak with artists, watch demonstrations, and purchase a scratch block to make their own iron designs on site (limited quantities available). Enjoy free admission to the museum to view the amazing iron work of the 1859 Pumphouse engines and miniature train rides operated by volunteers from the Golden Horseshoe Live Steamers club.
Furnace will be ready to pour iron at 2pm. Train Rides will be running from 11am to 3pm.

Train Days with the Golden Horseshoe Live Steamers
Catch a ride on a miniature train, operated by the Golden Horseshoe Live Steamers! Various model engines will be running on the miniature railroad track at the museum. Make sure to head to the Pumphouse to learn about Hamilton’s steam-powered Waterworks, built in 1859.
