Long before engineering was recognized as a discipline in the United States, Gzowski lived in Erie and later moved to Canada, becoming one of Ontario’s iconic canal and railroad engineers. Gzowski was knighted by the Queen for his Canadian work on the Welland Canal, the Maitland to Colborne feeder canal and the Grand Trunk railroad. Gzowski is the great-grandfather of CBC Radio’s Peter Gzowski.
