From Seed To Stock Pot – Help Caledonia Fair Celebrate “Community Harvest”
The Caledonia Fair, as part of this year’s theme “Community Harvest”, is launching a Community Project. “From Seed To Stock Pot”, invites the gardeners of Haldimand County and surrounding area to work together on creating a Community Soup night. Donations of garden vegetable produce will be accepted on September 18, 2021. Volunteers from the Caledonia Agricultural Society will take these donations and create a Community Harvest Soup, which will be available for purchase as a take out meal event on September 26, 2021. All proceeds will be donated to the Caledonia Foodbank. The Ag Society is also making vegetable seeds available for those who want to plant and grow especially for this project.
“With all the increased time at home, many of us have spent more time in the Garden,” says event volunteer Vickie Peart. “This is one way that our extra time at home can still have an impact helping the Community. Whether you grow and donate extra produce, or pick up some of our seeds and just grow for this project, we’re truly bringing the Fair theme of “Community Harvest” to life.
Any vegetable produce will be accepted on Saturday September 18, at the Fairgrounds (times to be announced closer to the date). The Soup Take Out dinner on Sunday September 26 is just days before the 149th Caledonia Fair, currently set for September 30 to October 3/21. Need Seed? You can pick up your seed packets at the Riverside Eatery “Scoops Ice Cream” counter, open Fridays and weekends starting May 31/21, or email soup@caledoniafair.ca to make other arrangements, or for more information. Join us for “Community Harvest Soup”, September 26/21, and the Caledonia Fair, “Community Harvest” September 30 to October 3/21.
