  • Poetry Contest - Haldimand Library

Haldimand County Public Library invites the community to get creative and participate in its 12th Annual April Poetry Contest.

This year's theme is "Family." Submitted poems should explore the importance of family, what family means to the writer, or a specific aspect of family life, such as love, birth, or loss. To showcase the diverse meaning of family, poems can also illustrate different emotional bonds with non-relatives, such as pets, friends, or caregivers.

Poems can be submitted online through the Library's website or in person at any library branch from April 1 to 30. Each poem that meets the contest criteria will have a chance to win a cash prize in one of the following categories:

    • Primary - Kindergarten to Grade 3
    • Junior - Grade 4 to Grade 6
    • Intermediate - Grade 7 to Grade 10
    • Senior - Grade 11 to Grade 12
    • Adult - Ages 18 and up

Judging will take place at the beginning of May, and cash prizes will be awarded to the first, second, and third-place winners in each category. The first prize will be $50, the second prize $35, and the third prize $20. Winners will be announced in mid-May, and an awards ceremony will follow.

The prizes for the April Poetry Contest have been generously sponsored by The Friends of the Dunnville Library, The Friends of the Jarvis Library, and The Friends of the Caledonia Library.

For more information on contest rules and submission details, visit haldimandlibrary.ca/poetrycontest.

  • Hamilton’s Egg Hunt for Dogs (and their people)
It is that time of year, and National Service Dogs have dug out their bunny ears in preparation for our Annual Hamilton Easter Egg Hunt for Dogs.
This event is held at Joe Sams Leisure Park on Good Friday, April 18, 2025.
This year we aim to raise $85,000.  Together, we can change a life.

In-person Interviews and photoshoots are available before the event.

All funds raised from the event through pledges support National Service Dogs’ award-winning certified service dog programs.

The Hamilton Easter Egg Hunt for Dogs is back!

Join National Service Dogs for an exciting morning of searching for thousands of colorful Easter eggs filled with treats, hidden throughout Joe Sams Leisure Park. Participants will have the opportunity to hunt, collect eggs, and retrieve treats along with prize tokens from their finds. Every canine participant will receive a swag bag and will have a chance to win additional prizes.

Registration for the HUNT is now available at www.nsd.on.ca. You can register online for $25 per family or in person for $30 per family. The more pledges participants gather, the greater the prizes they can earn.

This year, we have six hunt locations: one in Calgary, AB, and five in Ontario, which include Hamilton, Guelph, Kitchener, London, and Windsor. Together, we aim to empower children with autism and help restore independence to veterans and first responders living with Post Traumatic Stress (PTSD).
All proceeds raised from this event through pledges will support National Service Dogs' award-winning certified service dog programs.

We are thrilled to announce that this year’s hunt is brought to you in partnership with Dogtopia Foundation Canada with the support of Dogtopia locations across Canada and their parents.
